Podcasts: Be inspired on the way to work
Jan 22, 2015
The time you spend in your car can quickly add up day to day. For me, it would be an hour just driving to and from work. I also love information… new ideas… I love to be inspired – but I find it so hard to find time to read books or articles with the hustle of everyday life. Recently I gave up my Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift to listen to podcasts and I can’t believe I haven’t been doing it from the day I first bought a smart phone.
Be inspired to work on your business
Postcasts are the equivalent of radio shows or videos from any number of different sources. You can get comedy (Hamish and Andy), News Shows (all the big networks have an equivalent); but specifically lately I have been listening to business developments/commentary podcasts like Beer, Blokes & Business (http://beersblokesbusiness.com/).
The premise is a few guys from various positions in the working world get together to discuss items that entrepreneurs and business leaders would want to know about; while drinking a new beer each session. Topics such as idea generation or Partnerships or Content curation come up, and they have guest speakers come on – and it really is just a great open forum on business. I have loved it, and it’s great to see how other leaders in their fields tackle problems that all businesses face… and how you might tackle those types of problems yourself or even how you can leverage a new idea for your business.
Be inspired by bigger ideas
Another great one I like is TED (Ideas worth spreading). (https://www.ted.com/talks). If this one doesn’t inspire you nothing will. There is focus on business, but also on social and bigger world problems. A great one on here I loved recently was the mum behind the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. (https://www.ted.com/talks/nancy_frates_why_my_family_started_the_als_ice_bucket_challenge_the_rest_is_history) A great story on its own which is truly inspirational and moving – and personal – but a great example of how to get a story out. How to make change.
Their library is full of topics in voice only and video form; and shows some of the greatest minds in the world tackling, or giving a different take on; the issues.
Apple iPhones (and tablets) have a podcast tool built right into iTunes which will download new podcasts as they are released. For android, the app I use is Pocket Casts (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts&hl=en) it does cost a little bit of money but $3 is worth it.
Both of these apps will download new shows as they come out and you can listen to them while driving or in the office.
So… go ahead. Be inspired and use your drive time to develop your mind and expand your world!
